Dr. Michelle Watts is a Faculty Director in the School of Security and Global Studies at American Public University System (APUS). As faculty director, she coaches instructors who teach International Relations and Conflict Resolution, Public Administration, Public Policy, Legal Studies, Emergency and Disaster Management, as well as Fire Science, to give students the best possible experience.
She studied International Relations at the American University in Washington D.C. and earned a Master’s Degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Arizona in Tucson. She completed her doctoral work at the University of Southern Mississippi’s International Development Doctoral Program. Her teaching and research interests include human security, cultural transformation, governance international development, and issues related to indigenous populations. She has received grants from the APUS to studies political and economic issues in Panama, indigenous governance in Costa Rica, and Information Technology access among Alaska Natives and Native Americans.
Jessica Brown is the stormwater specialist for Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant. She is a licensed water resources engineer, career Extension professional, and faculty within Public Service and Outreach at the University of Georgia. Ms. Brown works with coastal communities to improve stormwater management, protect water resources and demonstrate watershed stewardship.
Mark Colwell is a Database Administrator working for General Dynamics IT, in support of the Army Communications Security Logistics Activity at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He is always prepared to explain the difference between data and information, and help others identify the information they need. Mark retired from the Army is 2003, and has worked a wide range of jobs since retiring from Program Analyst and Project Manager to Subject Matter Expert in the COMSEC equipment.
Mark recently graduated from American Military University with a Master of Science in I.T. Project Management, after completing his thesis on Challenges to Broadband Internet in Remote Regions of Native Nations. His certifications include Project Management Professional, Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certified Associate, and Security+. Mark is proud husband, parent and grandfather who will be celebrating his 35th wedding anniversary later this month. In his free time Mark loves history, hiking, and playing computer games.
Nicole Weymouth, an Environmental Manager, Project Manager and Supervising Environmental Planner with WSP, has over twenty years’ experience in environmental compliance and planning, with an emphasis on urban transportation infrastructure. She has a Bachelor’s of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Masters of Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia. Her work has included National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, and similar state and city regulations, preparing Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments for airport, rail, highway, and resiliency projects. In addition, her experience includes permitting, policy analysis, technical writing, risk assessment, and sustainable development. She has focused on transportation and development projects for various lead agencies such as the New York State Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and has worked in the New York City metropolitan area for over thirteen years.
